Matt Damon has confirmed today that he will be taking on the role of rapper Ice Cube in the forthcoming film about the meteoric rise and fall of the rap band NWA.
Damon who admits that this may be his most challenging role so far told us “People have commented that I may not look the part which is quite frankly a bit racist if you ask me. Using my considerable acting skills I will be endeavouring to convey the persona of Mr Cube through my own brand of thespianism. I won’t be wearing any gangster clobber, I won’t be swearing, and the film will be set in Brugge” he explained.
“Once you get over the fact that he is white, well spoken and wearing a suit then you could almost be in the same room as ice Cube himself” explained fellow actor Jason Statham who will be playing the character of co-rapper Easy E.
The film has already come under attack from rap fans due to Mr Damon’s reported insistence of completely removing the word “mothafucka” from the entire script and instead replacing it with “monkeyspunka”. Ice Cube himself who is directing the film has called the amendments “regrettable” but has said it’s a small price to pay to keep Damon in the role.
