A spokesman for the Connaught theatre in Worthing has confirmed that after being approached every year since 1979, iconic American comedian Bill Cosby has finally agreed to play the lead role of Aladdin in this years pantomime.

One inside source at the theatre told us “He’s moderately funny yet also squeaky clean and that’s just how we like it. We just can’t believe we were able to afford him. With our budget we usually have the choice of the guy who played Andy in Eastenders and went on to star in the Admiral insurance adverts, the short one out of Blazing Squad or that guy who used to translate for Joey Deacon. Maybe he’s always charged low fees and that’s what made him successful.”

The news has reportedly sent ripples of excitement throughout the town, one excited hotelier telling us.  “This is going to put Worthing on the map. Is Cosby coming to Lancing? No. Is he coming to Sompting? No. Is he coming to Felching? I don’t thing there can be any doubt as to which is the premier town on the Sussex coast ending with ing. It just goes to show that persistence pays off in the end.”

One local who had bought tickets for every performance said he was elated by the news if a little confused.

“We don’t know why this is the year that we finally get Cosby. But it’s just the tonic that Worthing needs after Rolf Harris failed to turn up to turn on the Christmas lights.”
