David Cameron has confirmed this morning that he will be offering the Scots the power of love in lieu of his pre-referendum devolution pledge.
Speaking to members of the press, the Prime Minister explained “We had originally offered the Scottish Parliament greater autonomy in terms of taxation and welfare but it has come to our attention that if we simply give the power of love then that would be even better.”
“The power of love is a curious thing, it makes one man weep and makes another man sing. Change a hawk to a little white dove. More than a feeling that’s the power of love.” he added.
The offer has not been without its critics both from conservative back benchers who feel that Mr Cameron is giving away far too much, and the SNP who feel the offer is a cynical Huey Lewis and the News orientated smokescreen to mask Westminster’s deviation from it’s original pledge. Indeed a very angry Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond went as far as to say that the Scots had been “tricked” by the Government’s original pledge.
However Mr Cameron has publicly retorted, arguing “You don’t need money, don’t take fame., don’t need no credit card to ride this train. It’s strong and it’s sudden and it’s cruel sometimes but it might just save your life. That’s the power of love.”
Labour leader Ed Miliband has refused to be drawn on whether he would offer an identical package.
