Australian band Midnight Oil are already being tipped as likely winners of the Eurovision song contest 2015 with their song “Beds are burning”
Though this will be the first time the country have entered the competition due to it being in completely the wrong continent, the show has a long tradition of being broadcast in Australia by broadcaster SBS who recently hosted a song for Australia. In a public vote the song beat off Tie me Kangaroo down by Rolf Harris and Say Goodbye by 1980s heart throbs Indecent Obsession. A spokesman for SBS said they were confident of an Australian win in Vienna.
“Everybody likes Beds are Burning. It’ll win because it’s so catchy. And it’s got a serious message about the environment. It’ll put Australian music on the map.”
Eurovision organisers had invited Australia to participate as part of the contest’s 60th anniversary celebrations. Prime Minister Tony Abbott was said to have shrieked, and jumped up and down in excitement on hearing the news of Australia’s participation and reportedly did a bit of wee.
“The whole thing is making me feel far more in touch with my feminine side. I’m going to have a proper party with finger foods and everything. I feel like we’ve always been part of Eurovision. In fact didn’t Angry Anderson win it one year?”
