Turkey to ban links to videos of cats

turkey bans cat videos

Prime Minister of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan has vowed  to “wipe out” all parts of the internet that involve links to videos of cats doing funny things.

“I don’t care what the international community says at all. These cats are taking the piss out of me and I’m fed up of people saying I can’t get rid of them. Everyone will see the power of the Turkish Republic,” Mr Erdogan said in a speech on Thursday “through the immediate absence of cute videos involving cats performing hilarious antics.”

Should Mr Erdogan succeed in his attempt to wipe out all cat related digital video footage, he may have to find a replacement to avoid a possible revolution. China for example now has it’s own form of internet with Government vetted videos of cats that portray the correct message.

The European Union said it was worried about the move, with Stefan Fuele, the EU commissioner for enlargement, saying he was “gravely concerned” by Prime Minister Erdogan’s policy on free digital viewing of hapless felines.

“In any event, people are just going to get round it by watching their  their own cats at home. And the internet block already has obvious loopholes with people just filming lions and panthers made to look smaller with giant balls of wool” he added.
